I know I probably won’t be the first to use that headline (or the last), but it’s seriously good.

A tricky dilemma is upon me today – having been total ensconced in Mass Effect 2 for the past month or so I’ve just begun embarking on the epic assault on the fingers and brain that is Insane difficulty. It is Insane. I hate those flipping zombie folks that seem to be able to run up and whack you to death in an instant. So there you are, deep into a game requiring ever ounce of gaming skill you have and what should happen? New game arrives.
In this case, it’s God of War III, a game I’ve been anticipating since pretty much the end of the second one. So what do you do? Abandon Mass Effect, in the knowledge that you’ll never be able to play it as well once you’ve been hacking and slashing your way through Kratos’ third adventure for a week or so, or do you persevere, playing a game you’ve already completed, whilst a new one stares at you from the cupboard.
Which brings me to my point, what should a gamer choose, to become an expert at one game, or to experience every great game from start to finish at least once?
People spend years of their life leveling up on Halo III or Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer, but never play through Portal.
One visit to the EA Skate II community reveals the amount of time people have spent perfecting some truly spectacular moves – but they probably haven’t played through Heavy Rain.
What is it about some games that garner such dedication that gamers will forsake all others to become master of one title?
It comes back to story vs gameplay – for some, the drive to complete games comes from the need to know what happens (See Brutal Legend – great story, not so great game), for others the game is all that matters and becoming the greatest it the ultimate goal.
Time must also be a factor, maybe the chap the filmed the above video has also completed every major title in recent history (and if he/she has, I want some time management advice). Maybe it’s just that some of us let life get in the way of gaming, while for a dedicated few gaming is life.

The Great Maker is to take on Superman & Wonder Woman from issues 701 and 601 respectively. How will he handle the continuity (he has previously states that he wasn’t too keen on the in-continuity books)? Guess we’ll find out soon. The Source will have an essay by jms online soon.
For now, jms made some comments on the DCU Blog:
“For as long as I’ve been doing conventions (starting in the early Cretaceous period, when it was just me and a handful of pterosaurs on a panel debating whether or not mammals with opposable thumbs were really necessary to the writing of quality comics, a point still hotly debated today), there has always been the same question from folks in the audience: “Is there any one character who is your dream character to write for?” The answer has always been the same: Superman. When I first came over to DC, that dream was realized in part by Dan DiDio’s gracious invitation to write the first of potentially many Superman original graphic novels. Now the dream has come fully true with the opportunity to write for the mainstream title, in a story that returns Superman to his roots in a way that will have the whole country talking about him in ways that we haven’t seen in a long time.
Similarly, the chance to write Wonder Woman — the nearest analogue to Superman in the DCU — is massively exciting. She’s a vital, powerful character, and we hope to bring a more contemporary sensibility to her character will retaining everything that makes her unique.
That DC is willing to jump-start these two runs in the pages of their respective anniversary issues is a great opportunity and a vote of confidence in what we have planned for these characters. I’m looking forward to this with more excitement than words can convey.
It’s gonna be a blast.”
I for one, cannot wait.

Welcome to Speeding Bullets – the socially unacceptable hobbies blog.
Video Games, Comics, Wrestling… When was the last time someone in the office chatted about them?
Has anyone been bantering around the water cooler about the latest issue of Green Lantern?
Heard anybody discussing the various endings of Heavy Rain?
Thought not.
That chat tends to be relegated to the bowls of various specialist websites where fanboys dis each other and complain about literally everything.
This blog exists purely as an outlet for people (mainly me) to discuss the many merits of interests that don’t seem to have a place in polite society. It is a positive place where we’ll be mainly banging on about all the great stuff, and only occasionally complaining about stuff.
Like when Val Venus appears on TNA.
But its mainly all possitive.
So here goes…
